Vickers hardness number: (VHN) is a measure of hardness obtained with a diamond pyramidal indenter with a square base and an angle of 136. VHNis proportional to the ratio of the applied load to the area of the indentation. Devised in the 1920’s by engineers at Vickers, Ltd. in the United Kingdom.
